The future of Liberia’s electoral processes remains promising as the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) continues to explore partnerships with both national and international institutions to strengthen its work.
As part of promoting best practices, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recommended the establishment of an Environmental Protection Unit within the NEC.
According to the EPA, such a unit would help guide and support the Commission in implementing environmentally friendly electoral processes.
The recommendation was made on Monday, 9 March 2026, by EPA Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, during a special tour of the Agency’s laboratory facilities in Monrovia.
The tour was attended by members of the NEC Board of Commissioners, the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director for Administration, the UNDP-Liberia Chief Technical Advisor, and other consultants.
In response, NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah thanked the EPA for its commendable work and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Agency during future elections.
