How a Party Gets Registered
To become a registered political party in Liberia, an organisation must submit a formal application to the NEC together with its constitution and by-laws, its political programme, a list of national officers, and evidence of nationwide representation in at least six counties. Once accepted, the party must comply with the New Elections Law, the Political Parties Regulations, and the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates.
Compliance Obligations
Registered parties are required to: hold internal elections at intervals prescribed by their constitution; submit annual financial statements audited by a registered accountant; file annual activity reports with the Commission; and observe campaign finance rules during election periods. Failure to meet these obligations can result in sanctions ranging from warnings and fines to suspension and, ultimately, deregistration.
For the complete directory with registration dates and status, see the Registered Parties directory.
