COMMISSIONERS JOIN GLOBAL ELECTION LEADERS AT A-WEB CONFERENCE IN THE PHILIPPINES

MANILA, Philippines – Thursday 15 October 2026

Two Commissioners of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC Liberia), Josephine Gaye and Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar are participating in the 7th General Assembly and International Conference of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) in Manila, Philippines, where election leaders are sharing experiences and exploring practical ways to strengthen electoral cooperation worldwide.

Their participation places Liberia among election management institutions engaging in international discussions on how to protect electoral integrity, improve election administration, and respond to changing democratic needs.

Hosted by the Commission on Elections of the Philippines (COMELEC), the conference brings together representatives of election management bodies from across the world to exchange knowledge, discuss common challenges, and identify opportunities for closer collaboration.

A key moment of the gathering is the formal handover of A-WEB’s chairmanship to the Philippines, marking a new chapter in the association’s leadership and its efforts to support cooperation among election management bodies.

Participants are examining emerging opportunities and challenges in modern election administration, with particular attention to electoral integrity, innovation, inclusivity, and institutional resilience.

Discussions also emphasize the value of strong partnerships among election institutions, especially as they work to build public confidence, promote transparent processes, and ensure that eligible citizens can participate meaningfully in elections.

For Liberia, engagement in international forums provides an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other countries and to contribute perspectives drawn from its own electoral processes and democratic development.

Knowledge exchange among election administrators can help institutions identify practical approaches to improving procedures, strengthening professional capacity, and responding to new demands in election management.

As the Philippines assumes the A-WEB chairmanship, the conference highlights how sustained international cooperation can support credible, transparent, and inclusive elections across different national contexts.

NEC Liberia remains committed to advancing democratic governance through professional election administration, constructive partnerships, and continued engagement with the global electoral community.

Participation by Commissioners Gaye and Morgan Awar reflects the Commission’s continued interest in learning, collaboration, and shared efforts to strengthen public trust in elections in Liberia and beyond.
