Strengthening Partnerships for Environmentally Friendly Elections
The future of Liberia’s electoral processes remains promising as the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) continues to explore partnerships with both national and international institutions to strengthen its work. ‎As part of promoting best practices, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recommended the establishment of an Environmental Protection Unit within the NEC. ‎According to the EPA, such a unit would help guide and support the Commission in implementing environmentally friendly electoral processes. ‎The recommendation was made on Monday, 9 March 2026, by EPA Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, during a special tour of the Agency’s laboratory facilities in Monrovia. ‎The tour was attended by members of the NEC Board of Commissioners, the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director for Administration, the UNDP-Liberia Chief Technical Advisor, and other consultants. ‎In response, NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah thanked the EPA for its commendable work and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Agency during future elections. ‎
