NEC Holds Consultative Assessment Workshop on Website Modernization

The National Elections Commission (NEC), in collaboration with the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP), successfully concluded a two-day consultative assessment workshop focused on the modernization of the Commission's official website. The workshop, held at NEC headquarters in Monrovia from December 11-12, 2025, brought together senior NEC staff, ICT specialists, and communications officers.

Workshop Objectives

The workshop was designed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current NEC website, identify gaps in content, functionality, and user experience, and develop a roadmap for a modern, accessible, and informative digital platform. Participants reviewed international best practices from other electoral management bodies and explored how the website can better serve citizens, media, political parties, and election observers.

"Our website is often the first point of contact between the Commission and the public. It must reflect our commitment to transparency, professionalism, and accessibility. This workshop marks the beginning of a transformative journey in how we communicate with the people of Liberia." — NEC Senior Official

Key Findings

  • The current website lacks mobile responsiveness and modern design standards
  • Content governance and update workflows need to be formalized
  • Election results and voter information services should be prominently featured
  • Accessibility for persons with disabilities must be improved
  • Social media integration and real-time updates are critical for the 2029 cycle

Next Steps

Following the workshop, the NEC ICT team will develop detailed technical specifications and a phased implementation plan for the new website. The target is to launch the redesigned platform by Q3 2026, well ahead of the 2027 voter registration update exercise. The project aligns with the broader NEC ICT Strategy 2026-2035, which emphasizes digital transformation and electoral technology sovereignty.

The workshop was funded through the UNDP-managed Liberia Electoral Support Project, with technical support from international electoral technology experts.
